Cyber threats pose an increasing risk to government institutions, making cybersecurity awareness essential in ensuring the integrity of public service. In response to this urgent need, the Women’s Alliance for Security and Peace (WASP), in partnership with the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) of the Philippines, conducted a nationwide Cybersecurity Webinar on February 7, 2025. With over 270 ARTA personnel from across the country in attendance, the webinar aimed to equip government employees with the knowledge and tools necessary to protect sensitive information, secure communication channels, and mitigate cyber risks in their daily operations. ARTA Secretary Ernesto V. Perez joined the session, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to digital security, efficiency, and transparency in government processes.
The training featured two in-depth sessions led by top cybersecurity experts. Ms. Cherry Veniles of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) guided participants through the evolving cyber threats targeting government systems, including phishing, malware, and social engineering attacks. She also shared real-world cases of cyber fraud, email spoofing, and effective reporting mechanisms to counter cyber incidents. Meanwhile, Cpt. Niko Angelo Tarayao, a cybersecurity expert from the Philippine Army, focused on best practices in safeguarding digital identities, emphasizing the importance of multi-factor authentication, secure messaging protocols, and encryption in government communications. The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Ms. Leah Grace Salcedo, Director of ARTA’s Finance and Administration Office, whose leadership ensured the participation of ARTA officials nationwide.
WASP extends its deepest gratitude to the speakers for sharing their expertise and to all ARTA personnel who took part in this critical initiative. As cyber threats continue to evolve, WASP remains committed to strengthening digital security awareness and advocating for cybersecurity best practices across government and beyond.
